Robert Jordan was the pen name of James Oliver Rigney Jr. (1948–2007), an American author best known for his epic fantasy series "The Wheel of Time." The series, which began with "The Eye of the World" published in 1990, consists of 14 books and is renowned for its intricate world-building, extensive character development, and themes drawn from various mythologies and religions.

Jordan's writing is characterized by a detailed narrative style and a large ensemble of characters, and the series has garnered a massive following. After his passing in 2007, the final three books of "The Wheel of Time" series were completed by author Brandon Sanderson, based on Jordan's notes and outlines.
