Oscar Wilde

Oscar Wilde - كتب

Oscar Wilde (1854–1900) was an Irish poet, playwright, and novelist, known for his wit, flamboyant style, and sharp social commentary. He is best remembered for his works such as "The Picture of Dorian Gray," a novel exploring themes of vanity and moral corruption, and "The Importance of Being Earnest," a comedic play that satirizes social conventions of the Victorian era.

Wilde was a leading figure in the Aesthetic Movement, which emphasized art for art's sake and the importance of beauty in life. His famous epigrams and maxims often reflected his views on society, morality, and individualism. Some of his notable quotes include "Be yourself; everyone else is already taken" and "The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it."

Wilde's life was marked by personal tragedy, including his imprisonment for "gross indecency" due to his homosexuality, which was criminalized in Victorian England. He spent two years in prison and emerged deeply altered, ultimately dying from meningitis in 1900. Despite his controversial life and tragic end, Wilde's works have remained influential and continue to resonate with audiences today.
