Marlon James is a Jamaican author and professor known for his distinctive storytelling and rich prose. He gained widespread acclaim for his novel "A Brief History of Seven Killings," which won the 2015 Man Booker Prize. The novel explores the political and social turbulence in Jamaica during the late 20th century, particularly the assassination attempt on reggae legend Bob Marley.

James is also the author of other notable works, including "The Book of Night Women" and "Black Leopard, Red Wolf," the latter being the first volume of his Dark Star Trilogy, which blends fantasy and African mythology. His writing often addresses themes of identity, power, and history.

In addition to his novels, James is known for his commentary on literature, culture, and social issues, and he has been influential in discussions around the representation of Caribbean and African cultures in literature. He teaches creative writing at Macalester College in Minnesota.
