Eric Carle (1929-2021) was a renowned American author and illustrator of children's books, best known for his distinctive collage-style illustrations and engaging storytelling. His most famous work, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," published in 1969, has become a classic in children's literature, teaching concepts of counting, days of the week, and metamorphosis.

Throughout his career, Carle authored and illustrated over 70 books, many of which feature themes of nature and the animal kingdom. His colorful and imaginative artwork captivated young readers and helped to foster a love of reading. Carle's work has received numerous awards and accolades, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Architects and being named a Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal recipient.

In addition to his books, Carle co-founded the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Massachusetts, which celebrates the art of picture books and aims to inspire a love of reading and art in children. His legacy continues to influence generations of readers and artists.
