Christopher Isherwood (1904–1986) was a British-American writer known for his novels, autobiographical works, and contributions to the genre of gay literature. He is perhaps best known for his Berlin Stories, which include the novella Goodbye to Berlin. These stories reflect his experiences in Berlin during the Weimar Republic and have had a significant influence on both literature and film, famously inspiring the musical and film Cabaret.
Isherwood's writing often explores themes of identity, sexuality, and the complexities of human relationships. His style combines a keen observational skill with a sense of irony and an ability to capture the vibrancy of the lives around him.
