Christopher Hitchens

Christopher Hitchens - كتب

Christopher Hitchens (1949–2011) was a British-American author, journalist, and public intellectual known for his wit, eloquence, and often controversial opinions. Graduating from the University of Oxford, Hitchens began his career as a journalist in the UK before moving to the United States, where he wrote for various publications, including Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, and The Nation.

He was a prolific author, with notable books like "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything," "Hitch-22," and "Mortality." Hitchens was an outspoken critic of religion, and his advocacy for atheism and secularism made him a prominent figure in contemporary debates on these subjects.

In addition to his views on religion, he wrote extensively about politics, war, literature, and culture. He was known for his sharp critiques of political figures and ideologies, whether on the left or the right. Hitchens gained greater visibility during the Iraq War, where he controversially supported the U.S. invasion, arguing that it was a necessary action against tyranny.

Hitchens was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2010, and he wrote about his illness and mortality in a series of essays. His battle with cancer, as well as his intellectual legacy, continues to influence discussions on free speech, religion, and political thought. He passed away on December 15, 2011, but he left behind a significant body of work that continues to provoke thought and conversation.
