Admiral William H. McRaven is a retired United States Navy four-star admiral, known for his extensive service in special operations and his leadership in several important military operations. He was born on November 6, 1955, in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
McRaven graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977 and went on to join the Navy, where he became a Navy SEAL. He served in various capacities during his military career, including as the commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) from 2011 to 2014. During this time, he oversaw the operation that led to the death of Osama bin Laden in May 2011.
In addition to his operational roles, McRaven has been involved in military education and strategy. He has also written several books on leadership, including "Make Your Bed," which is based on a commencement speech he delivered at the University of Texas in 2014, and "Sea Stories: My Life in Special Operations."
